Terminal Modernization and Improvement at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, Birmingham, AL
Due to aging infrastructure and projected increases in the number of passengers using this airport, the Birmingham Airport Authority required consultants to implement LEED design strategies to make wholesale changes to the Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport. KHEOPS was the prime engineering design firm for this traditional design-bid-build project. KHEOPS was charged with the civil design of the elevated roadway, pedestrian bridges and a 4,000-vehicle multi-level parking deck expansion in addition to providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design for the terminal expansion. |

HJAIA Maynard H. Jackson International Airport, Atlanta, GA
KHEOPS and its joint venture partners were responsible for architectural and engineering design of the new 930,000 square feet international terminal and concourse. One of the most significant benefits of the new international passenger terminal is the independent roadway allowing drive up access to the terminal for departing and arriving passengers. The new international terminal and concourse also features upgrades to the airport’s international passenger service and support facilities, including new concessions, duty free areas, ticketing and baggage handling. The convenience for retrieving luggage in the same terminal where flights arrive is a huge improvement and appreciated feature that makes passenger flow more efficient. KHEOPS’ role on this project also included management of sub-consultants performing related engineering design. We also provided design and quality control reviews to ensure a completely integrated design for this 900 million-dollar project as well as construction administration and field observation services during the construction of the civil infrastructure for this project. |

Love Field Stormwater Drainage Master Plan, Dallas, TX
KHEOPS’ scope included study of stormwater drainage improvements for City of Dallas Love Field Airport footprint and upstream/ downstream drainage basins. KHEOPS assessed the offsite drainage basins located northeast of Lemmon Avenue utilizing as-built drawings, drainage area maps, hydrologic models, and existing surveyed information regarding storm sewer location, size, and capacity of existing storm sewer and open channel systems. After completing assessment of existing documentation, KHEOPS’ team field verified storm sewer locations, types, sizes and flowlines as required to determine drainage areas and update existing drainage area maps to assist with developing an existing conditions storm water model for the offsite drainage basins. KHEOPS then prepared a composite plan view of the existing system on an aerial base, reviewed and determined three to five concepts for interception and diversion of flows. Thereafter, we provided results to review concepts, prepared a hydrology and hydraulics analysis report for one or two concept options. The final phase involved production of technical memorandum outlining efforts and results including constraints, flows and alternatives. |
